Martial Arts Classes Information
New joiners, be they complete beginners or experienced martial artists are always very welcome to the classes, which we feel provide a safe, friendly and enjoyable environment in which to practice martial arts. The information below is based on some commonly asked questions. Please feel free to contact us if you require any further details or information.
What do I wear?
Initially, any loose fitting garments such as track-suits are suitable. After a while, members may wish to purchase a training suit. A bottle of water or sports drink is also advisable especially in hot weather.
How much is it
We aim to keep the overall cost of training as low as possible to ensure practice is accessible to all. With our lesson fees, there is no minimum sign-up period or tie-in of any description.
Is there a joining fee?
After several weeks, individuals will have an idea of whether the classs are something they'd like to continue with. Membership of the Bushi Goya-Ra-Ru Association (BGA) would then be expected. The current membership 'licence' fee is just 15.00GBP. This is the only 'joining fee' as such.
Progression?
A progressive grade framework is used to provide practitioners with a defined series of goals to aim for. Students advance through these grades in their own time in accordance with the requirements of a challenging and well structured syllabus.
Participation in the grading scheme is by no means compulsory although most people find it to be a valuable tool in setting objectives and quantifying improvement.
Who are the adults classes suitable for?
Men and women of all ages and abilities. There's usually a 50/50 split of men to women at the classes, which are structured for all abilities.
Is is safe!?
The risk of injuring anything (even your pride) is extremely small. There are target pads to practice hitting, not each other. We also enjoy a friendly, courteous and respectful environment where 'beating each other up' just isn't the done thing!
Do I need to be fit?
Classes are suitable even the most unfit couch potato. You can take all the lesson activities at your own pace. Stamina and technical skills will steadily increase before you know it.
Do I need any prior experience?
No, classes are suitable for complete beginners.
Who takes the classes?
Lessons are lead by experienced martial arts instructors (high grade black-belts) with decades of training and teaching experience behind them. Additionally, Instructors are CRB checked, first aid trained and have nationally recognised fitness industry qualifications (NVQ, NCFE).
